This is a self-portrait of me wearing my recent Steampunk outfit as seen through a fish-eye lens. I didn't have an actual fish-eye lens photo of myself so I improvised the perspective after looking at lots of fish-eye lens photos.
I'm familiar with fish-eye lenses, though I've not used on e on a camera in...well...more years than I can remember. I've also seen a Photoshop trick that mimics the effect. This drawing cleverly captures the look and feel of such a lens with excellent realism, while the style of the art is a charming caricature of Dov's recent costume venture into the steampunk genre.
The use of colour and highlighting particularly stands out on the hair, the glasses and the face giving it a marvelously three dimensional effect.
I've watched Dov's art evolve over the years and the whimsical nature of Dov's art has always been the sort of thing that can surprise and elicit a sense of twisted delight in the viewer. This piece is no exception as it leaves the viewer wondering just what this aspect of Dov might know about you...and knows that you know that she knows something...just not exactly what it is!
